Welcome to Gram Scales
Many people use gram scales for a variety of reasons, however, the most important reason are for those individuals with diabetes, eating disorders, or people watching their intake of carbohydrates and fats.
The reason gram scales are important for these individuals is the all food contains carbohydrates, fats, proteins, minerals, and vitamins. However, carbohydrates have quite a bit to do with the blood sugar. Gram scales can help people measure the carbohydrates in the foods they eat especially casseroles, soups, unsliced French bread, and fruits.
You can use a gram scale in this way:
- First, weigh the food to learn the true amount of grams. This is the total weight of the food not the total carbohydrates.
- Next, you look for the carbohydrate percent within the food group
- Multiply the total weight of the food in grams by the carbohydrate percentage
- The answer is the number of carbohydrates in that serving.
With your gram scale, you will be able to determine if you need to cut down on certain servings, or if you are eating healthy.
